High Dynamic Range (HDR)
Double and triple-flash scanning for High Dynamic Range (HDR) capture of print film
Lasergraphics double and triple-flash HDR scanning offers the best capture of print film shadow detail of any film scanner on the market!
Often, part or all of the original negative is missing when it comes time for an older film to be scanned. This requires that print film be scanned for the missing portions. Whereas the highest density on negative film is about 2.0, the highest density on print film is 4.0 or more. Thus, scanning print film requires at least 100 times more dynamic range than negative film. |
Print DMax is 4.5 to 5.0

Camera Neg DMax is 2.0

Unfortunately, conventional film scanners (e.g. ARRISCAN, DFT Scanity, and others) have been optimized to primarily scan negative film. Consequently, these scanners are simply incapable of properly scanning print film. The result is that shadow detail is either entirely missing, or very noisy.
In contrast, Lasergraphics' HDR capability can easily capture shadow details on print film at densities well beyond 4.0.
